Keep doing what you do now. Even though the work will make you feel so tired that you feel like a zombie and cause indescribable stress, you (as a doctor) are a modern day hero.

Live it ... to the Full!

Enjoy :-)

Think of the one thing you've always wanted to do, then do it. I know when I get out of medical school, that's what I'll want to do. If you have the chance to do it, then take that chance. :)Either that or find a speciality you love and go for it.

I'm still reading - what are the options?

I'm still not sure.. if in doubt do MRCP it's a really good grounding in general medicine whatever you decide to do.

Update your blog more ;)

Avoid general adult medicine like the plague... (Yes, I am bitter at the moment...)

With regards to?.. What are your choices?

1) stay in the field of medicine but switch to a different speciality
2) go back to studying and do a PHD or go into research
3) pack it all in and go travel for a year to figure out what you want
4) go be a doctor for the army or in a third world country or something
5) carry on exactly as you are right now...

Have no regrets. It is my current theme...

1. Stand up comedian
2. Street cleaner
3. Royalty

Not necessarily in that order.

Adopt the Postman Pat approach:

"Early in the morning,
Just as day is dawning,
He picks up all the post bags in his van....
All the birds are singing,
And the day is just beginning,
Pat feels he's a really happy man."

Seriously: I want the job that makes me satisfied just doing it day after day. I think I've just discovered it, and the things that make it great are an interesting subject matter, a reasonable workload, and being surrounded by like-minded people. So what's important for you?

You gotta give us more to work with than that! But you've got to write your life story one step at a time. Is there any hospital speciality out there that you're interested in? Is there any country you've wanted to live in for a year or two - if not to work, then just to go travelling?

What should I do with my life?

Whatever the hell you want.
(This course of action has worked wonders for me).

This world is ours.

Oh yeah, and what Lei said as well!

Go to NZ for a year like you mentioned. You will get better exposure and more responsibility in a variety of fields. And, if it doesn't help you make your choice, it will at least give you a great holiday.

Hope the decision has become easier...
